Algeria, September 10, 2025 — The Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES), a member of the TRANS-SAHARA project consortium, made a notable contribution to the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), held from September 4–10, 2025 at the Palais des Expositions, Pins Maritimes in Algiers.
At the heart of PAUWES’ participation was the presentation of the Trans-Sahara Project, a flagship initiative promoting sustainable resource management and climate resilience across the Sahara region. The project drew strong interest from stakeholders, highlighting PAUWES’ leadership in applied research, capacity building, and innovation in water, energy, and climate change.
Strengthening Regional Collaboration
Throughout the week-long event, PAUWES engaged with partners and visitors from across Africa and beyond, reinforcing its mission to shape a sustainable future for the continent. The delegation emphasized the importance of collaborative research and innovation in addressing Africa’s environmental and energy challenges.
Key highlights of PAUWES’ participation at IATF 2025 included:
- Showcasing the Trans-Sahara Project, which generated enthusiastic engagement and opened doors for new collaborations.
- Signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GISB Electric, a company specializing in electrical equipment production, to strengthen synergies in technology and energy innovation.
- Exploring future collaboration with Agriquest, represented by Executive Director Mr. Olaniyi, including potential participation in the Green Agric West Africa Expo, scheduled for February 2026.
- Contributing to expert panel discussions, where PAUWES shared insights on advancing Africa’s energy and water transitions through applied research, training, and knowledge transfer.
“Showcasing the Trans-Sahara Project at IATF 2025 allowed us to demonstrate how collaborative research and innovation can drive Africa’s sustainable development,” the PAUWES delegation emphasized.
A Vision for a Resilient Future
PAUWES’ active involvement at IATF 2025 not only promoted its institutional mission but also positioned the Trans-Sahara Project as a strategic vehicle for delivering low-carbon, resilient, and inclusive solutions for Africa’s future.
