The TRANS-SAHARA project has been featured in an article written by Florence Afriyie Mensah and published by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) following the African WEFE Nexus Summit held in Kumasi, Ghana.
The article, titled “African Nexus Summit discusses innovative approaches to build climate resilience”, highlights the Summit as part of the broader TRANS-SAHARA project and reports on discussions around innovative approaches to strengthening climate resilience and advancing sustainable development across Africa.
According to the article, the Summit brought together researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, development partners and community stakeholders to exchange knowledge and explore integrated Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus solutions. Held under the theme “Harnessing Resources for Sustainable Climate-Smart Water-Secure Development”, the event showcased the importance of collaboration in addressing interconnected challenges related to water security, sustainable energy, food systems, ecosystem restoration and climate resilience.
The article also presents TRANS-SAHARA as a flagship European Union Horizon Europe research and innovation initiative implemented across Ghana, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Senegal, Djibouti and Chad. In Ghana, the project is implemented by the Technology Consultancy Centre – Centre for Innovation, Manufacturing and Emerging Technologies (TCC-CIMET) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with local communities, government institutions and research organisations.
The news story features remarks from Prof. Daphne Gondhalekar, Project Coordinator and Principal Investigator of TRANS-SAHARA at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), together with contributions from Prof. Francis K. Davis, Director General of TCC-CIMET, and Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, highlighting the importance of integrated approaches and collaboration in building climate resilience across Africa.
