TRANS-SAHARA Joins Forces with GALILEO and AFROGROW in a New Agroforestry Cluster

About Event

We’re excited to share an important milestone for the TRANS-SAHARA project: the creation of a new Agroforestry Cluster, built in collaboration with two sister Horizon Europe projects: GALILEO EU-AU and AFROGROW.

This new alliance marks the beginning of a shared journey towards transforming landscapes and strengthening climate resilience across the African continent. While each project brings its own focus and expertise, we are united by a common goal: to support sustainable agroforestry systems that empower communities and protect ecosystems.

A Collaboration Rooted in Shared Purpose

The Agroforestry Cluster was born out of the recognition that tackling complex environmental challenges requires collaboration. By working together, TRANS-SAHARA, GALILEO, and AFROGROW aim to foster greater impact, encourage meaningful knowledge exchange, and amplify the voices of local actors shaping the future of Africa’s drylands.

Meet the Sister Projects:

TRANS-SAHARA

As you know, TRANS-SAHARA is committed to strengthening transformational adaptation in African drylands through nature-based solutions, policy co-creation, and regional action. The project supports the goals of the Great Green Wall Initiative and works closely with communities, researchers, and decision-makers to advance long-term climate resilience.

GALILEO EU-AU

GALILEO brings a strong focus on multi-actor approaches, co-developing agroforestry innovations with local communities across Sub-Saharan Africa. From agro-pastoral to agro-silvo-pastoral systems, the project aims to enhance climate adaptation, biodiversity, and livelihoods through people-centred land use solutions.

AFROGROW

AFROGROW is all about creating change from the ground up. Through a network of Agroforestry Living Labs, the project brings together local voices and scientific research to co-create nature-based solutions rooted in gender equity, social inclusion, and ecological restoration.

We’ll be sharing updates soon on joint activities, events, and publications from the Cluster. In the meantime, follow us and our sister projects across social media (LinkedIn and Facebook)!

Together, we’re growing stronger, greener, and more resilient.
