TRANS-SAHARA Project Conference in Tunisia: Pioneering WEFE Nexus Solutions for Agroforestry Resilience

About Event

Gammarth, Tunisia – June 19, 2025 –  Our partners from the National Research Institute for Rural Engineering, Water and Forestry (INRGREF) hosted a very insightful conference in which the TRANS-SAHARA project was presented to key local stakeholders. Held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Gammarth, the event marked a significant milestone in the region’s commitment to sustainable development and climate resilience.

The event was more than just a formal introduction—it was a space for dialogue, collaboration, and co-creation. Participants included researchers, government officials, entrepreneurs, NGOs, and international organizations, all eager to contribute to shaping the project’s direction. One of the standout features of TRANS-SAHARA is its bottom-up approach. Local stakeholders—farmers, startups, community leaders, and institutions—are not just beneficiaries but active partners. Their insights and experiences are crucial to ensuring that the solutions developed are practical, inclusive, and impactful.

Agroforestry in Northern Africa faces increasing pressure from climate change, water scarcity, and land degradation. TRANS-SAHARA offers a hopeful, science-driven path forward. By integrating the WEFE Nexus into agroforestry management, the project seeks to create scalable models that can be replicated across similar regions globally.
