West African Science Services Center On Climate Change And Adapted Land Use

WASCAL (West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) is a large-scale research-focused Climate Service Centre designed to help tackle this challenge and thereby enhance the resilience of human and environmental systems to climate change and increased variability. It does so by strengthening the research infrastructure and capacity in West Africa related to climate change and by pooling the expertise of ten West African countries and Germany.

Eurac Research

Eurac Research was founded in 1992 as an association under private law with just twelve members of staff undertaking research in the areas of Language and Law, Minorities and Autonomous Regions as well as the Alpine Environment. The center gradually expanded its activities into new areas, attracted scientists from all over the world, and introduced new structures. Today, over 600 collaborators from almost 50 countries conduct their research at Eurac Research.

The University of Science and Technology succeeded the Kumasi College of Technology which was established by a Government Ordinance on 6th October, 1951. It was however, opened officially on 22nd January, 1952. KNUST exists to advance knowledge in science and technology through creating an environment for undertaking relevant research, quality teaching, entrepreneurship training and community engagement to improve the quality of life.

Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar

University Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD), in Dakar is the oldest university in francophone African countries. It has students coming from 44 different nationalities from all parts of Africa. Alongside its six faculties, the university hosts a variety of specialized schools, mainly in the area of journalism, environment, engineering, and public health. UCADs faculty of Economics and Management is considered a center of excellence for sustainable economic development studies in Africa.

Rural Polytechnic Institute for Training and Applied Research

The National Agency of the Great Green Wall of Chad (ANGMV) combats desertification through land restoration, sustainable development and community empowerment. With projects such as reforestation, assisted natural regeneration and integrated agricultural farms, it restores land, improves food security and creates green jobs to build resilience to drought.

The senegalese agency for reforestation and great green wall is a public institution which is in charge of reforestation in Senegal and implimentation of the GGW initiative. It is also in charge of the implimentation of the ecovillages.

The actions of the GMV structure of Djibouti (Sub-Directorate GMV and Reforestation)

The GGW structure of Djibouti is responsible for the implementation of local actions for the restoration of degraded ecosystems and the fight against desertification, in line with the objectives of the Great Green Wall. It promotes initiatives for the conservation of natural resources, reforestation and the strengthening of food security.

In addition, the structure ensures the coordination of national projects, the mobilization of funding and the active participation of local communities. It also plays a key role in integrating traditional knowledge and promoting innovative practices to strengthen the country’s environmental resilience.

UNU-EHS is a UN agency headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, but represented in the project by its German entity, dedicated to discovering novel solutions for promoting environment and human security, will primarily contribute by supporting the definition and evaluation of new business models and value-chains underpinning the deployment of the agroforestry systems in the GNAR. UNU-EHS brings to the consortium specific expertise around ensuring the commercial sustainability of innovations supporting environmental and human security.

The Bavarian ministry of environment and consumer protection is a state administration of Bavaria/Germany. Water management is one main topic. The three main objectives of Bavarian water management are to protect water as a component of the natural balance and as a habitat for animals and plants, to enable people to use water responsibly and to protect people from the dangers of water.

Wakayama University Japan

Established in 1949, the  Wakayama University (Wakayama Daigaku) is a non-profit public higher  education institution located in the medium city of Wakayama . Similarly to UTOKYO-AGR and UTOTO, they participate within the project providing their world leading expertise in the field of water system engineering and sustainable agriculture particularly in terms of addressing drought and long in-depth experiences in working in Africa. They will contribute to the project by acting as Advisory Board members, helping to share their wealth of agroforestry expertise with replicability potential to Africa.

The Faculty of Agriculture has the longest history at Tokyo University of Agriculture. Within this faculty, the production of agricultural plants and animals and the fundamentals of agricultural sciences are studied. The Faculty of Agriculture has the longest history at Tokyo University of Agriculture. They will contribute to the project by acting as Advisory Board members, helping to share their wealth of agroforestry expertise with replicability potential to Africa.

Tottori University has focused on practical learning, challenged the issues facing the regional communities through taking advantage of knowledge that human beings have developed, and contributed to the region through improving people’s life and promoting industrial development. They will contribute to the project by acting as Advisory Board members, helping to share their wealth of agroforestry expertise with replicability potential to Africa.

Eurac Research - Center for Sensing Solutions

The CENTER FOR SENSING SOLUTIONS is a technology competence center with the aim of supporting researchers and SME in following and fully safeguarding entire data life cycles. We actively collaborate with interdisciplinary research entities, the South Tyrolean Digital Innovation Hub and small business units.
